Engagement scoring definition, with examples in Salesforce and iMIS.

Engagement scoring is a way of measuring the levels of interaction between you and your members. Engagements might include email opens, event attendance, and completing a course on your Learning Management Solution.

Engagement scoring means attributing a numerical value to an action. You can give different values to different actions, determined by how important they are for your organisation.

Digital engagement scoring methods

Absolute engagement scoring

Absolute engagement scoring assigns a score to an interaction.

For example, you might assign an email open with 5 points, event attendance with 15 points, and completing a course on an LMS with 20 points.

The engagement score will be the sum of all the scores the member has received, giving you an overall score.

This is a straightforward way of engagement scoring. However, as the score is a sum, the results are always going to be changing. You might find that you have to regularly change your categories, they can become moving targets.

Percentile engagement scoring

Similar to absolute engagement scoring, percentile scoring assigns a weighting to different engagements.

However, the interactions are condensed into a score out of 100.

This can make it much easier to create categories and complete a targeted approach to engage your members.

Engagement dashboards

An engagement dashboard shows you a visual overview of engagement from your members with your organisation.

These are grouped into categories and can be displayed as charts. Example categories might be simple like: Highly engaged, engaged, low engagement, unengaged.

You might want to be more specific with categories; for example: user, connector, contributor or leader. Your groupings should be specific to your organisation.

At Zentso, we developed a tool called scorez, which works on the percentile method. This tool allows you to query any data you want and assign it a weighting you’ve defined.
